Running Through Time Zones: A Singapore Morning I’ll Never Forget

Running Through Time Zones

Singapore | Sunday, 5K | Sunrise

It was my third morning in Singapore. After two days of drifting through jet lag — groggy, wired, out of sync — something shifted. I woke up clear, lighter. My body had finally caught up with the time zone, and I felt a pull I hadn’t felt in days: run.

I laced up, left the hotel quietly, and stepped into the heat that never fully sleeps in this part of the world.

And there it was — that moment — the kind that reminds you you’re alive.

The city was just waking up. The sun was rising low, pouring soft gold over glass towers and water. I ran past other early risers, locals and travellers, their footsteps rhythmic against the ground. I was just one of them. No destination. Just motion.

It struck me as I passed the palms:

How far I’ve come — not just in miles, but in life.

Twenty years ago, I dreamed of mornings like this. Of being somewhere else. Of having the freedom to wake up halfway across the world, go for a sunrise run, and feel like I belonged in that scene. That I had earned it.

And yet, in that moment, it wasn’t pride I felt — it was presence.

The sound of breath catching up with motion.
The feel of warm wind on skin.
The realization: I’m here.

What Travel Reminds Me

I often compare my life in London — grey skies, cold pavements, fast pace — to these fleeting travel moments. There’s something magical about running in a new place. You see the city differently. You feel your body in real time. No noise. No calendar. Just motion and awareness.

Singapore gave me that. Even if just for a morning.

And it reminded me: we work hard for these moments. They don’t always come easy. But when they do, when we pause and notice, they become part of who we are.

A Note from Me

I started Anahaw to hold onto moments like this — the quiet, grounding ones. The feeling of presence. The textures of home, even while we move through the world.

If you’ve ever run through a sunrise in a new city,
if you’ve ever taken a deep breath and thought “this is it,”
then you already understand the spirit behind what I make.
